Mahon Holidays
The picturesque port town of Mahon in the idyllic Balearic Islands is famous worldwide for its majestic harbour, one of the deepest in the world. The capital of Menorca since 1722, the city has a strong naval history, coming under British, French and Spanish rule throughout the years. Nowadays, Mahon is more famous for its local delicacies and laid-back culture. A getaway to this seaside village gives you a glimpse into the Balearic Island lifestyle and is just a quick drive away from the beaches of Punta Prima and S'Algar. The old capital of Ciutadella and the popular towns of Cala Blanca and Cala'n Bosch are easily accessible on the opposite side of the island.
Port Mahon
At 5km long, over 1km wide, and 15-30m deep, Port Mahon is the second deepest natural harbour in the world and an absolute must-see for any holidaymaker in Mahon. The central hub of the town, you’ll find the main promenade packed with restaurants, cafes and bars -open all night
Punta Prima
Take a trip just 20 minutes south of the port for a day in the sun at the resort town of Punta Prima. One of the prettiest beaches on the island, Punta Prima, is surprisingly quiet and perfect for families and couples. Spread out on the white sands of the Blue Flag beach, soak up the morning sun and then go for a walk around the Cami de Cavalls, an ancient track that circles the entire island.
Things to Do
Try the cheese
Menorca is known for its cheeses, and the local speciality, Mahon Cheese, is delicious. Mahon is made from cow’s milk and has a unique flavour: buttery, sharp, slightly salty, sweet, fruity aromas. Eat it the traditional way—sliced and sprinkled with olive oil, pepper, and tarragon—or enjoy it served over pasta, potato, and rice.
Watch the ships
Spend an afternoon down at the port, watching the ships of all shapes and sizes come in from the Mediterranean Sea to dock. As the sun sets, go to one of the local restaurants for a fresh seafood dinner and a taste of Mahon Cheese. Join the crowds and stop at an outdoor bar to make the most of the mild island nights.
